Over time, we fall so much in love with God that we don't want to do anything that will hurt Him. God wants you to walk in victory and not face the sin Romans 6: So take the time to read His word, then spend time in prayer and worship with the Lord, and soon you will see that those things that used to cause you to sin become less and less a part of your life.

The Prodigal Son and His Pit —

You will gain the victory as you walk with Jesus. Discover God's love and plan for you.

Because God loves us, He allows us to make decisions. When we make the wrong choice we make mistakes. When God created humanity, He made us in His image and likeness with a free will, which means that He created us with the freedom to choose between right and wrong. God wanted a family. He didn't want robots. As a result, we are free to either follow after God's ways, or we can choose to rebel against the truths of Scripture.

The Prodigal Son

Adam and Eve were given a choice in the Garden of Eden — and sadly, they chose to disobey God. Once we are saved, we have to continually choose to obey God and follow in His ways. However, we are all human and we sometimes make mistakes. The key to abundant life in Jesus is to recognize when we make a mistake, God has given us the free will to make that choice, then to ask God for forgiveness for our sin 1 John 1: Scripture says, "There is no greater love than to lay down one's life for one's friends" John Speaking of friendship, the Bible declares, "A friend is always loyal, and a brother is born to help in time of need" Proverbs So the best way to be a friend to follow the golden rule: And the key is to obey the First Commandment, which is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength Matthew Then the second commandment comes directly after, which is to love your neighbor as you love yourself Matthew Someone once said that the way to have a full life is by observing the acronym J.

When you walk with these priorities, you will be a true friend to others. I have good news! God is not angry with you. Because Jesus took sin upon Himself on the cross, every believer who accepts Jesus Christ as his or her Lord and Savior becomes a child of God. Because we are human, we all make mistakes and sin from time to time Romans 3: You need to understand that this sin makes God sad, but He is not angry with you.

God is sad because he knows that sin can harm you Romans 6: So when we sin, it is important that we quickly ask God to forgive us 1 John 1: Saying we're sorry to God for our sins is called repentance. But even if we sin again, we need to understand that God loves us. He's our Heavenly Father, and He wants us to ask for forgiveness so that He can bless us and protect us from any plans of the devil.

God's love and forgiveness for us through Jesus sacrifice on the cross is one of the reasons why the Gospel is such Good News. The older brother had stayed with his father. He was angry with his younger brother because he left. The older brother had the right heart. But he also had spiritual pride.

This brother obeyed the law. But he did not have the same love that his father had, and this was his weakness. As Christians, it can be very easy for us to fall into the same trap of spiritual pride that the older brother fell into. We can say, "Oh I love God, but I don't like people very much. The younger son asks the father for his inheritance, and the father grants his son's request. However, the younger son is prodigal i. The younger son is forced to return home empty-handed and intends to beg his father to accept him back as a servant.

To the son's surprise, he is not scorned by his father but is welcomed back with celebration and fanfare.

Luke 15:11-32

Envious, the older son refuses to participate in the festivities. The father reminds the older son that one day he will inherit everything, and that they should still celebrate the return of the younger son because he was lost and is now found. It is the third and final part of a cycle on redemption, following the Parable of the Lost Sheep and the Parable of the Lost Coin. The parable begins with a young man, the younger of two sons, who asks his father to give him his share of the estate. The implication is the son could not wait for his father's death for his inheritance, he wanted it immediately.

The father agrees and divides his estate between both sons. Upon receiving his portion of the inheritance, the younger son travels to a distant country and wastes all his money in extravagant living. Immediately thereafter, a famine strikes the land; he becomes desperately poor and is forced to take work as a swineherd. This, too, would have been abhorrent to Jesus' Jewish audience, who considered swine unclean animals. When he reaches the point of envying the food of the pigs he is watching, he finally comes to his senses:.

But when he came to himself he said, "How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough to spare, and I'm dying with hunger! I will get up and go to my father, and will tell him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight. I am no more worthy to be called your son.

Make me as one of your hired servants. But while he was still far off, his father saw him, and was moved with compassion, and ran towards him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. The son does not even have time to finish his rehearsed speech, since the father calls for his servants to dress him in a fine robe, a ring, and sandals, and slaughter the " fattened calf " for a celebratory meal.

The older son, who was at work in the fields, hears the sound of celebration, and is told about the return of his younger brother. He is not impressed, and becomes angry.

He also has a speech for his father:. But he answered his father, "Behold, these many years I have served you, and I never disobeyed a commandment of yours, but you never gave me a goat, that I might celebrate with my friends. But when this, your son, came, who has devoured your living with prostitutes, you killed the fattened calf for him. The parable concludes with the father explaining that because the younger son had returned, in a sense, from the dead, celebration was necessary:.

He was lost, and is found. This is the last of three parables about loss and redemption, following the parable of the Lost Sheep and the parable of the Lost Coin , that Jesus tells after the Pharisees and religious leaders accuse him of welcoming and eating with "sinners.

The request of the younger son for his share of the inheritance is "brash, even insolent" [7] and "tantamount to wishing that the father was dead. On the son's return, the father treats him with a generosity far more than he has a right to expect. The older son, in contrast, seems to think in terms of "law, merit, and reward", [7] rather than "love and graciousness.

The father, who represents the Heavenly Father, implies to the older son that his love for both sons is not dependent upon their perfection, but their willingness to return to Him with a broken heart and a contrite spirit.
